Star Stable Entertainment is cutting approximately 20% of its workforce, meaning up to 40 staff could lose their jobs.

The Star Stable Online maker’s website claims it has 130 staff, but its LinkedIn profile suggests it employs over 180 staff, which would mean cuts of anywhere between 26 and 40 staff. The Stockholm-based developer refused to confirm the number of staff potentially affected when contacted.

According to AppMagic, flagship title Star Stable Online has generated around $23m in IAPs since its full launch in 2022, and has pulled in around 12m downloads. It generates around $500k per month, the estimates say. Star Stable also runs Star Stable Horses, which has earned around $2.7m in IAPs since launch in 2017.

“Making this decision was incredibly challenging and does not diminish the contribution these team members have made,” interim CEO James Nicholas wrote on LinkedIn.

“However, I strongly believe this step is necessary to secure the long-term future of Star Stable. By reducing our operating costs and refocusing our resources, we are putting Star Stable in the best possible position to adapt, grow, and deliver memorable experiences for players today and for years to come.

“Right now, our immediate focus is supporting the talented colleagues who are leaving us,” Nicholas added. “I want to express my sincere personal gratitude for their hard work, creativity, and dedication. We are fully committed to helping them navigate this transition with care and respect.”

The company has encouraged other studios that are hiring to reach out to affected staff.
