To celebrate September 30, the day the cop inside of Leon Kennedy died, here's my most traumatic encounters in Resident Evil

Today's basically a national holiday for Resident Evil fans. September 30 marks 28 years since the day the cop inside Leon S Kennedy died, the day he'll never forget; when Raccoon City was wiped out by Umbrella's classic mishandling of bioweapons in Resident Evil 2.

So to celebrate the day that made Leon S Kennedy who he is, I've collated all the most traumatic experiences I've had in Resident Evil games:

The Baby

The Baby from Resident Evil Village is probably my most vivid traumatic memory of a Resident Evil game. This is for a few reasons. It was in a pretty recent playthrough of the game that I spent about 45 minutes trying to get through that section while having a panic attack with all my friends—turns out a giant fetus chasing you down is pretty hard to forget.

As you'll soon discover, one of my greatest fears is being chased, and this really pushes the fetus baby segment from uncomfortable into truly traumatic. No, giant weird fetus baby, I am not your dada.

Spider-Mum

I could've easily just put the entirety of Resident Evil 7 on this list, and I just might, but if I had to choose the worst part of that game was the mum, because why does she look like that.

I like spiders, we have an agreement, and I don't even think the boss fight was that hard but I absolutely did not care for Mrs. Bakers' look in Biohazard. The spider egg sack hanging from her stomach, her grotesquely long limbs, oh god it's just all bad. The only solace I have is that at the very least Capcom didn't go with its original concept art for Marguerite, because that's somehow even worse.

Tippy toes

Resident Evil 2 has plenty of blood-chilling moments and while I'm no fan of T-00, I don't actually mind him following me around, that is, as long as he doesn't break line of sight. The moment I lose sight of that blue fedora-wearing demon my blood pressure goes through the roof, not because I'm scared of where he might be, but because I hate the sound of his footsteps as he's trying to find me.

I don't think there's any noise worse than the sound of T-00's pace picking up once he's figured out where you are. Truly the stuff of nightmares.

Little Angel

I don't think this list would be complete without mentioning Emma Kendo. Perhaps it's because I played Resident Evil: Requiem recently wherein Leon revisits this scene, but even still seeing Robert Kendo scramble to comfort his daughter as she turns is just horrible. I think the line "You're a cop. You're supposed to know something!" haunts me just as much as it does Leon at this point.

The bad ending

Leaving Moira behind at the end of Resident Evil: Revelations 2 really messed me up. It wasn't grotesque or scary like the other additions but it still sucked to get the bad ending and lose a character I'd been working so hard to keep alive. You'd think her telling me to leave would make it easier, it did not.

Itchy. Tasty.

Another not so visually jarring but still traumatic entry has to be the Keeper's Diary in OG Resident Evil. This is a bit of a love-hate one as I do enjoy a good bit of world building. But reading someone's painstaking notes as they documented their infection of the T-virus and slowly lose themselves to the pain, while somehow not knowing what's happening to them, is pretty messed up.

But enough about me and all my trauma, what about you guys? I'd be morbidly interested to know what your most traumatic memories from Resident Evil are. But please, no more chase scenes, my heart can't take it.
