Supercell has killed one of its US game projects, and the other is MIA

Supercell’s US game development operation appears to be winding down.

One game has been killed, and the other appears to be in the balance after most of its staff departed late last year and in early 2026.

Supercell US project cofounder Steve Desilets announced on LinkedIn that the game he was working on for three and-a-half years with Matt Mocarski has been killed, and its team disbanded.

And the four ex-Riot staff hired in 2022 to be the core of another US-based Supercell game project have all left the company, according to their LinkedIn profiles.

For context, Supercell US boss Ryan Wener announced that the Finnish firm would be making games Stateside in February 2022. Later, in December of that year, two core Supercell US project teams appeared to be taking shape.

One was led by Seattle-based veterans Steve Desilets and Matt Mocarski. Desilets has been in game development for 30 years, and has previously served as creative director at Amazon and EA. He’s also had two stints at Valve, worked at Zynga as design director and held art and design roles at Looking Glass, Harmonix and Oddworld Inhabitants.

Mocarski has held senior art positions at Playgig, King, Amazon and Carbine. Desilets and Mocarski cofounded Scuttlebutt Games in 2019 to make survival shooter Deliver Us.

Around the same time, Supercell US hired four ex-Riot staffers: Candace Thomas, Charles Lee, Maya Kylmamaa and Kevin Bray. All of these staff left the company earlier this year or in late 2025, according to their LinkedIn profiles.

We have asked Supercell for comment and clarification on the status of its US teams, and will update this story if they respond.

These moves do not seem to have affected Supercell’s marketing and admin offices in LA, New York and San Francisco, who are all still hiring, according to the company’s careers website.

Steve Desilets’ LinkedIn post reads: “After 3.5 years, my most recent adventure is coming to a close in July as we shutter our North American Supercell project and our team.”

I learned a great deal from the North American leadership and our many trips to Finland. “In the meantime, I will continue to create and, with a large-scale correction currently underway, contemplate the market and how it is changing.”
