Supercell and Duolingo reveal new Brawl Stars crossover

Supercell and Duolingo have revealed a new crossover event which will see Brawl Stars fighter Spike and the language learning app’s mascot Duo appear across both apps.

The two characters are apparently beefing. As part of the crossover Duo will to ‘take over’ Starr Park in Brawl Stars and Spike will be popping up in Duolingo’s lessons for the rest of September.

Duolingo is, of course, the gamified language learning app used by millions to learn or brush up on their language skills. AppMagic estimates suggest it has earned around $2.62bn in IAPs since its launch 15 years ago, with $65m generated in just the last 30 days alone.

Brawl Stars is not far behind the hugely popular learning app, with AppMagic suggesting lifetime IAP revenue of around $2.42bn since 2018. It earned just shy of $16m in the last month.

While Brawl Stars has been downloaded an estimated 558m times, Duolingo has more than double that at around 1.14bn downloads.

At the end of last year, Space Ape and NextBeat cofounder Simon Hade – now at Duolingo after he and his team were acquihired – confirmed the learning app wanted to talk to other “small teams who might be open to acqui-hire conversations.”

It followed the closure of music games Beatstar and Country Star in October after Duolingo acquired the team. The language learning app has run similar gaming crossover events with Genshin Impact in 2025 and Angry Birds in 2020.
