New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani was recently asked to name his favorite anime, and the politician placed Digimon in the top spot. For many, the original Digimon anime series served as a gateway into the world of anime, alongside other popular 90s and 2000s series like Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, and Pokemon. At only 34 years old, it's no surprise that Mamdani was influenced by the series, which has recently seen a surge in renewed popularity due to the release of the Digimon Story: Time Stranger video game and the newest anime series, Digimon Beatbreak.
