Mafia 3, which PC Gamer scored 54% but which I say is great, got a nice little 10th-anniversary update

Here's a truth no one but I am willing to admit: Mafia 3 was good, actually. Please disregard PC Gamer's 54% Mafia 3 review. I don't know what happened there. Possibly Andy Kelly put the wrong game disc in by mistake. I understand they were still using game discs in 2016, alongside gramophones, the telegram, wax cylinders and what have you.
It's now 10 years old, which is deeply troubling, but earlier this week it got a new patch. "We're honouring a decade of Lincoln's legacy with a new Steam update bringing quality-of-life enhancements to Mafia 3: Definitive Edition, live now," says Hangar 13.
Don't expect anything gargantuan. If you bounced off Lincoln Clay's stylish and impeccably soundtracked (though, yes, a little repetitive, I will grudgingly admit) crusade against '60s mafioso racists back in the day, this probably won't lure you back in. Nevertheless, there are some nice changes here, and the ones that the devs give a particular spotlight are less janky mission progress, better NPC behaviour, and better achievement tracking.
That last one is self-explanatory, but for mission progress, the various little hitches that could interfere as you made your way through Mafia 3's main story have now been tended to: "We addressed several spots where players reported getting stuck and unable to make progress in missions like 'Get Enzo Conti,' 'Kill Tommy Marcano,' and the Epilogue" as well as some other mid-mission crashes that could occur.
Meanwhile, the fixes to NPCs should mean "Characters like Alcee, Father James, and others" no longer freak the hell out mid-mission. Which is less charming but probably better for completing the videogame.
There are a bunch of other changes, which I'll stick down below. But personally? I'm just glad Mafia 3 is still getting love.
