AI firm General Intuition has raised a further $220m, valuing the firm at a $6.2bn.

Announcing the news via LinkedIn post, CEO Pim de Witte said this follows a previous funding round in January that raised $320m and then valued the company at $2.3bn – that’s around a third of its current value.

The company’s data comes from Medal, the game clip-capture platform with more than 17m monthly active players. General Intuition and Medal operate as sister companies under a shared parent, and de Witte said Medal is one of the fastest-growing companies in games. It is on track to reach 3bn uploaded clips a year, he said.

Gameplay footage players capture and upload through Medal is being used to train commercial AI systems aimed at robotics and autonomous driving. Medal has previously said players can opt out of having their clips used for this at any time.

The firm has said that it has “no interest in building games, game engines, or asset generation systems,” but has previously worked with Epic Games and AI lab Kyutai to create Mira, a demo that shows off the firm’s world models by generating a multiplayer Rocket League-like game on the fly.

De Witte said the company also draws on data from simulated driving and flight games, arguing that on any given day there are more crashes recorded in-sim than across the whole of the US, and “more people play with steering wheels than Waymo has cars on the road.”

The round was led by Valor Equity Partners, with participation from Atreides, 776, Point72, Khosla Ventures and General Catalyst. General Intuition said it will use the funding to grow its team in New York and Europe, and has opened a waitlist for partners seeking early access to its models.
