Crunchyroll Confirms The Best Isekai With New Release

Isekai is one of the biggest anime genres, gaining popularity not just in Japan but globally. The flip side is that Isekai has also become an oversaturated genre of anime. Early hits, namely Inuyasha, The Vision of Escaflowne, Magic Knight Rayearth, The Twelve Kingdoms, El-Hazard: The Wanderers, and Fushigi Yûgi, helped make stories about characters traveling to another world popular with fans around the world. In the past decade, genre-defining series like Sword Art Online raised the standard with strong characters and exciting action, while 2023’s Frieren: Beyond Journey's End has had an incredible run, earning praise as one of the best anime of recent years. However, the downside to this is that a good number of new anime tried to ride the Isekai wave. As the genre grew, more and more Isekai anime started following the same formula. This mass production of new series uses the same old tropes: overpowered heroes, similar fantasy worlds, and the same story ideas.
