PlayStation has spent months embroiled in controversy after announcing plans to axe physical game disc production from 2028. Boycotts, petitions, and lawsuits quickly followed, urging Sony to reverse course. When it became apparent that wasn’t going to happen, the conversation shifted towards digital ownership. The EULA states that a game is “licensed to you, not sold,” and with the PS3 storefront closing and more than 500 movies and TV shows being removed from libraries without compensation, committing to an exclusively digital future without guarantees of preservation became a hard pill to swallow for many gamers.
