August’s top mobile game downloads: Roblox, Free Fire Max, Subway Surfers, Block Blast, Arrows, more

Here are the top mobile game downloads from last month, according to Appmagic data.

Appmagic’s estimates do not include numbers from China’s fractured Android market. There’s also commentary on August’s most notable trends from the top 20 and beyond below.

Both Roblox and Free Fire Max dipped a little month-on-month but remain the top two downloads for the second month running.

They’re both pretty far out in front of the rest of the pack. Third-placed Subway Surfers jumped up four places compared to July’s rankings after its best month of installs since January, with just over 15m downloads in August.

Block Blast’s decline has halted a little, and downloads are up for the second consecutive month to just over 15m. After generating over 38m downloads in December 2025, Hungry Studio’s Tetris-like puzzler saw a swift decline that kept going until June, when it plateaued.

It was the opposite story for Easybrain/Miniclip’s Arrow Puzzle game until August. It had seen a rapid rise right to the top of the download charts since it launched at the end of 2025 and it hit nearly 20m installs in July. But it tailed off last month, pulling in just over 13m downloads.

Ludo King hung onto sixth place, but has seen its third straight month of download decline.

Regular mobilegamer.biz readers were warned about the arrival of Tencent’s Gangstar Mirage City, which launched outside most major western markets on August 20. Despite that limited initial release, this GTA-like open world game has racked up over 12m installs in under two weeks to reach seventh spot. We understand Tencent’s still working on a ‘proper’ western launch for the game as GTA VI approaches…

Bus Traffic Fever, from Japanese studio Goodroid, has leapt up into eighth spot having only launched properly in March. August’s total of around 13m installs is a new record high for the hybridcasual game, which has also pulled in nearly $6.3m in IAPs, according to AppMagic’s numbers.

Turkiye’s Grand Games claimed two top ten places in August after both Magic Sort and Block Out saw an uptick in downloads. Magic Sort has been around for a while, but last month was the first time the puzzler has broken the 10m barrier, boosting it into ninth.

Block Out reached the same milestone much more quickly, having seen rapid growth every month since it started scaling in March.

Learnings’ Amaze/Arrows Go dropped out of the top ten last month, while Football League 2026, EA FC Mobile and eFootball all dropped a few spots after peaking in July as the World Cup concluded. Of that group, Soccer Superstar suffered the most – having placed fifth in July, it plummeted down the charts 30 places month-on-month.

Voodoo’s Mob Control is up five places month-on-month to 16th spot, while Mystery Dumpling is new to the listings, though it’s really more of a collectibles plaything than a game. Pizza Ready and Candy Crush Saga also saw notable gains in August, rising five and ten places through the rankings respectively.

Learnings’ Vita Mahjong also fell out of the top 20 in August after a long time in amongst the top performers.
