Supercell’s acquisition of Merge Mansion maker Metacore to be finalised this month

Metacore has officially signed an agreement with Supercell that means Merge Mansion and its team will become part of the Finnish firm at the end of this month. Financial terms have not been disclosed.

The two companies announced the acquisition in a joint announcement earlier this year, revealing that integration planning was already underway. Metacore closed its offices in Germany and Sweden and cut 159 staff at its Helsinki HQ as part of the move. 

“Merge Mansion created a completely new genre and has all the ingredients of a game that can be played for years and remembered forever,” said Supercell president Sara Bach. “We believe in what this game can become, and really look forward to welcoming the Merge Mansion team to Supercell and working together on the game’s next chapter.”

Metacore CEO Mika Tammenkoski added that the team is “excited about the opportunities this creates for the game, our team, and our players,” and stressed that player experience remains the priority as the game changes hands.

Merge Mansion, credited with kickstarting the merge genre on mobile, retains a loyal player base. According to AppMagic estimates, the merge puzzler has generated around $7.7m in the last 30 days alone, and is thought to have earned around $540m since its 2020 launch.

Supercell is a long-term investor and partner to fellow Finnish firm Metacore. In January 2023, Metacore acquired failed Supercell soft launch game Everdale and attempted to rework and relaunch the game under its ownership, but killed the game in September 2024.
