With the news that Sony is ceasing game disc production from 2028 onwards, many (myself included) have asked the question: what's the point in consoles anymore? The whole appeal was affordable, plug-and-play ease. You hook the PlayStation up to the TV, slide a disc in, and you're ready to go. Now, you're looking at $1,000+ hardware, digital licenses that can be revoked at any moment, and hefty downloads. Not to mention that Sony is primed to have a monopoly over game prices with the PS6, as it kills the second-hand and physical markets for new releases.
