Sony Starts Limiting PS5 Disc Drive Purchases Amid Surging Demand

In an interesting turn of events, Sony has restricted new orders for PS5 disc drives due to high demand, despite announcing plans to phase out physical discs in the near future. The PS5 disc drive is a separately sold peripheral that allows the Digital and Pro editions of the console to play physical discs, similar to the standard model. In theory, it could be considered an increasingly obsolete purchase given the direction Sony is heading. Yet, demand for the accessory appears to have risen even further.
