Luffy, and this crew officially began once Roronoa Zoro joined the protagonist on his adventures in One Piece Chapter 5 on August 25, 1997, in Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #39. Since then, Luffy's Straw Hat Pirates have continued to grow significantly, both in terms of numbers and powers.
