The Isekai genre has gained immense popularity not only in Japan but also all around the world. This wasn’t always the case, but thanks to a few stellar series, the Isekai breakout happened globally. Among them, the one that is often considered to be the pioneer is Sword Art Online, a novel series turned anime by A-1 Pictures in 2012.
